We want to share some interesting statistics with you.

In 1994 the National Health Interview Survey found that only 37% of people with disabilities were employed and actively engaged in the workforce, while 79% of adults without disabilities were working at the time of this interview. The reasoning behind why those with disabilities were not working is because they were afraid, did not feel prepared, or felt that there was just too much discrimination.

The unemployment rate is unacceptably high for persons with disabilities. Our objective is to help our students become ready to compete in the workforce and succeed in the professional world!

We want to give you an opportunity to serve, gain and exercise skills, share what you know to help others, and give you volunteer experience you can use for resumes for the future work force. We will have workshops. Topics may include: campus involvement, applying for jobs, disability awareness, internships, discussion groups and other presentations. We will also have keynote speakers that discuss topics to help you become more qualified and prepared to compete with the best in your fields.

Our aim is to provide an environment where ‘excellence is expected, and students are strongly encouraged to make a contribution toward their own success. We are, therefore, here to teach you to advocate for yourself.

Inspirational Thoughts

"There are some things you can give another person, and some things you cannot give him except as he is willing to reach out and take them, and pay the price of making them a part of himself. This principle applies to studying, to developing talents, to absorbing knowledge, to acquiring skills, and to the learning of all lessons of life." -Elder Richard L. Evans
